These recipes feature what makes summer sweets so blissful – ripe, succulent fruits, bright, refreshing citrus and cooling, zingy flavours that go perfectly with summertime fun.

So whether you need a snack to whisk away with you to the beach, or you’ll be hiking or biking or lounging by the pool (or maybe you’d just like to imagine you are!), these are the recipes you absolutely must try!

Lemon Blueberry Cake

The fresh white, royal blue and brilliant yellow of this lemon blueberry cake totally scream summer. I can just see this cake from Cooking Classy at my next barbecue, sitting on a table under the bright yellow sun, clear blue sky and fluffy white clouds. It’s perfect. Even the look of this cake is refreshing and summery. Lemon juice, fresh blueberries and sour cream make the cake moist and tender and don’t get me started on the cream cheese frosting. I could put cream cheese frosting on literally anything and love it. But slathering it on this lemony berry cake is definitely the best case scenario.

Blackberry Crisp in a Jar

The only thing better than dessert on a pretty little plate is dessert in a jar! A deep jar full of gooey berry goodness that you can dig into with friends on a hot day or a cool summer night, no matter where you are. This blackberry crisp by This Gal Cooks has a delectable crumble topping that I could happily eat on its own. I’m a total sucker for anything brown sugary and bite-y. Especially if it’s sitting on something creamy and dreamy. And this recipe has both!

Grill Cupcakes

These cupcakes are literally the cutest things I’ve ever seen. I’m obsessed with mini versions of big things, so these adorable sweets are right up my alley. They take summery dessert theme to the next level, turning the grill (which is pretty much the universal symbol for summer eating) into a cupcake decoration that’ll delight your party guests with their inventiveness. Frugal Momeh is one artful lady for making these chocolate cupcakes with swirls of flaming red and orange flames for frosting, black royal icing grill grates atop the flames, and even gummy “kabobs” perched on each grill for the final touch!

Summer Berry Sweet Pizza

Any respectable pizza has three critical elements: a tremendous dough, perfectly balanced sauce and carefully curated toppings. This sweet pizza from Donal Skehan passes all three tests! The dough is baked to golden brown perfection, crunchy on the outside, bready on the inside. The “sauce” is that ultimate blend of perfectly balanced hazelnut and chocolate, otherwise known as Nutella. And the toppings: nature’s bounty – fresh, ripe fruit that represent what’s best about summer. Put them together and you’ve got a sweet pizza that rivals the best savoury pizzas you’ve ever had.

White Chocolate Orange Creamsicle Truffles

My friend once handed me a bar of fancy chocolate and told me to take a bite and tell her what I thought. “I taste … sweet oranges,” I told her, totally shocked. And that was how I was first introduced to the nontraditional, yet insanely tasty combination of chocolate and oranges from OMG Chocolate Desserts. And while my first choco-orange experience was all about orange hiding in chocolate, seeing this recipe makes me think my next experience will be all about the chocolate hiding in these bright orange truffles!

Lemon Cream Puffs with Fresh Fruit

Are you starting to see a pattern? These summer desserts are every mix and match combination you can imagine of fresh fruits, citrus and sweets, and this lemon cream puff recipe, overflowing with fresh fruit, is no exception. Glorious Treats builds a fluffy whipped cream bed on a puff pastry base for the first layer of fruit to rest on, and then builds up, up, up, creating a tower of summery sweetness good enough to eat.

Strawberry Chocolate Nachos

This next recipe made me smile. It’s one part yummy and sexy and one part silly and playful. Romantic summery nachos … I never thought I’d be able to put those words in the same sentence, but Our Best Bites has achieved it! This saucy recipe is straightforward – bake the triangular cinnamon chips, create the sweet fruity salsa, and top it all with warm melted chocolate and you’ve made the most perfectly romantic (and slightly silly) summer snack.

Raspberry Lemonade Cupcakes

Cooking Classy’s raspberry lemonade cupcakes are just darling. They’re pink and yellow and sweet and lovely – fit for a garden party or a baby shower or anytime you’re craving an irresistibly fruity, citrusy cupcake. And the striped yellow and white straw garnish and the tiny slice of lemon are a playful reminder of what’s inside: lemonade turned cake and raspberry turned frosting.

No-Bake Strawberry Icebox Cake

Just the thought of icebox cake makes me feel classic and apron-y and wonderful. It makes me feel like I’m eating a fabulous slice of cake making story. This icebox cake by Cakescottage contains … drumroll please … two pounds of fresh strawberries, nestled in bananas and cream and graham cracker and powdered sugar. It’s cool and fresh and vibrant white and red … and just begging to be eaten on a hot summer day. And Cakescottage says the recipe’s so flexible, you can even make it in mini dessert shooters and serve it with mini dessert spoons!

Buttermilk Peach Summer Cake

This gorgeous cake is as delicious as it is rustically beautiful. It’s pretty as a peach. It’s homey and comforting and the peaches are baked right in. I cannot wait to bake this cake and have the smell of vanilla and sweet peaches perfuming my entire home. And the rich buttermilk and heaps of sugar spell l.o.v.e. to me! The Baker Upstairs is my new role model for creating this heart-warming summer confection.
