A trend that has been sweeping  through the party scene is that of Boho Tribal and it can work for both a male or female celebration. Think feathers, dreamcatchers, old lace and teepees and you have got yourself some pretty cool elements to style with. Combining some of these things, or all of them can work beautifully for a wedding, first birthday or a baby shower, and colours can range from bright hues to subtle tones. For a wedding I would suggest using your creams, tans and highlights of golds, but for the birthday parties think Aztec prints and bright, neon colours. Baby showers can use all sorts of tones from deep hues of purple to soft, blush pinks. Check out what some of our talented Australian party experts have done with their Boho Tribal ideas.

Start with your invitations as this will set the scene for the type of party you will be throwing. I love the simplicity of the brown craft paper with white text used by Penny Lane Studio or you can add a dash of watercolour to spruce the invite up as Paper & Style have. My favourite would have to be the hand painted dreamcatcher invitation from Pegs & Lace.

The Cake

Once I have chosen my invitations I tend to plan the cake next, no not because I get to go taste testing (well, maybe a little) but because this will be the focus point of my dessert table, and the cake if you are getting someone to make it needs to be ordered well ahead of time. I often try to make my son’s birthday cakes but if you have a disaster (like I did last year) it is good to have the backup on hand which is not easy one day out from the big day. There are so many elements that you can add here to make that two tiered white fondant cake stand out; fondant dreamcatcher, delicious feathers, naked cakes, wire antlers with fondant flowers. Oh so many choices and so little cake to put it all on. Here are a few that I thought showed just what you can do to make your cake stand out. I am a fan of the little teepee cakes, seriously what kid is not going to get excited about seeing this gorgeous creation by Sugarize and if you want to add feathers to the cake I think the way Cakery by KBelle did it is perfect. Or if you are like me and can’t quite decide whether to go one way or the other why not add both feathers and dreamcatcher as Supermum Cakes has done. I also love the way the feathers have been used in this cake by Cakes and Biscuits by Lisa.

Now being a crazy sweet tooth person I can’t just have a cake on the table, I have to go the whole hog and include macarons (Sweet Empire), cupcakes (Queen Baker) and cookies like these gorgeous hand painted ones by Best Dressed Cookies, used in the party setup by Tiny Tribe Events.

When I throw a party I really like to look at all of the details involved so I make sure that I chose products and décor that reflects the theme I have set with the stationery and followed through with the sweets. Some great ideas are cupcake toppers  like the ones that Sugarlicious have done, or dress up your food with some cool arrows by Fletcher & Fox. And nothing is better than adding a touch of glitter to dazzle things up a little which you can do with these gorgeous feather garlands from Love the Occasion or if glitter isn’t your thing then some pretty yarn bunting by Party Parlour just might be the way to go.

Dessert Tables

Once you have all of things sorted and the big day of celebration is upon you it is now the time to get those creative juices flowing and bring the whole look together. Dessert tables, if you have as many sweet things as I always do, will be a must, and this is where you can add your gorgeous décor and other decorative elements to make people say oooh and aaaah. One of the dessert tables I just absolutely love is this gorgeous one for three kids by Styled by Belle, the colours the décor, everything! And by adding a backdrop like the one made by 2 Love Birds certainly adds a wow factor. Or why not use a design element in the name that sits behind the dessert table like Once Upon A Table did (this stand was done at one of our fairs two years ago and I still think it is stunning).

Don’t forget that the styling doesn’t stop with the dessert table so add a little bit more, especially an area for the kids just like Milka Interiors did; using garlands from Paper Scissors Twine and gold leather bunting and arrows to dress up the teepees from Mocka Australia.

At the end of the day putting in that little bit of effort can really make a difference to a party. I believe that setting a scene from the beginning and carrying it through until the very end can make a difference to the whole vibe on the day and leave your guests counting down the days until your next party.
