A very sweet and simple design to impress people of all ages. The combination of traditional Christmas colours with a modern gold font makes for a classic creation. The text, while in script form is both modern and fun and pairs beautifully with the handmade cartoon-like Rudolph which sits atop the cake.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Learn how to prepare your cake for fondant covering
  • Learn to cover your cake in fondant using the wrap method
  • Discussion of troubleshooting techniques for the wrap method
  • Learn to create a sharp-edged corner
  • Discuss and learn how to handle printed designs and transfer them to your cake
  • Learn to hand paint with gold lustre dust and discuss best practice for hand painting techniques
  • Learn to treat fondant with CMC/tylose and create a handmade fondant topper with little use of cutters
  • Discussion on cake tools used and where to source them and other materials
  • Discussion on how to treat and store fondant toppers
  • Learn to apply other fondant decorations to cakes
  • Discussion on how to store your finished creation
  • A chance to meet and share ideas with others who are like-minded and have any related questions answered by industry professional

About Lena McKechnie

A wife and mum of ten-year-old twins, craft-nerd Lena fell into cake artistry when she couldn’t find a decorator to create her daughters’ first birthday cakes. A few years after Savvy Cakes was formed and is now in its seventh year of operation.

Trained cake decorator, Lena is based at home in Western Sydney where she creates custom cake, cupcakes and cookies for private orders, teaches workshops for budding cake enthusiasts and holds the odd pop up market stall to sell her edible works of art.
